In a recent episode of the hit CBS show S.W.A.T., Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, an elite police tactical officer walks into his kitchen -- and, instead of setting down his service-weapon on the counter -- puts it away in a gun safe on the wall. Then he comes back to talk to his wife and hug his toddler. Small touches like these could be a “game-changer,” CNN reports.
The new approach is one of the successes of “Show Gun Safety,” a gun-safety campaign launched by the advocacy group Brady United that had a White House roundtable with actors and writers last year. The group is now partnering with TV studios across the nation to not only show guns being stored safely but also eliminate guns in children’s TV shows and curb on-screen gunfire in adult programs when possible.
