Former Trump White House official Peter Navarro was been indicted on two counts of criminal contempt of Congress after refusing to comply with a subpoena from the House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol, the Justice Department announced Friday. Navarro,a trade adviser to Trump, received a grand jury subpoena in a lawsuit he filed against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and the House committee, the Washington Post reports.
Navarro, 72, is charged with one count involving his refusal to appear for a deposition and another involving his refusal to produce documents to the committee. The Jan. 6 committee subpoenaed Navarro in February seeking records and testimony from Navarro, who has written and publicly discussed the effort to develop a strategy to delay or overturn certification of the 2020 election.
