Caitlin Bernard, the ob-gyn who performed an abortion on a 10-year-old rape victim from Ohio, is suing Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita for defamation, Axios reports. Rokita, appearing on Fox News, accused Bernard of having a history of failing to report abortions. Under Indiana law, doctors are required to report to the state when an abortion is performed. The lawsuit said that Bernard has no such history.
The lawsuit accused Rodika of either purposefully spreading false information or spreading information with disregard for the truth. The suit also alleges that Rodika was trying to increase public scrutiny of Bernard. Bernard’s lawyer said her employer, IU Health, investigated and found she was in compliance with the law. Her 10-year-old patient was raped and unable to get an abortion in Ohio under to its ban of abortions after the sixth week of pregnancy. President Biden used this case as an example of the consequences of abortion restrictions.
