Maris Herold, the Boulder, Colo., police chief is stepping down from her post to take a position with a federal program, reports KUSA In Denver. Herold will workfor the Law Enforcement Knowledge Lab, which was launched by the U.S. Department of Justice's Bureau of Justice Assistance in 2022 to promote fair and effective policing practices across the U.S.
Herold is Boulder's first woman police chief. She has served since April 2020 ."It has been an honor and privilege to serve the Boulder community and the outstanding professionals who serve within the Boulder Police Department,” Herold said in a statement. “I will always carry with me the sacrifice and brave response to the King Soopers mass casualty event on March 20, 2021." Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa is accused of shooting and killing 10 people at the grocery store, including Boulder Police Officer Eric Talley.
