A gunman wounded 27 people, including six under 18 during a car show event in Dumas, Ar., the Associated Press reports. The family event turned violent Saturday evening when two people got into a gunfight. Two children under the age of two were injuring in the shooting, and one adult, Cameron Shaffer, 23 was killed. Candace McKinzie, an organizer for the show, said that the violence seemed to come out of nowhere. "You went from laughing and talking and eating and everything to random firing."
The event, called Hood-Nic (short for neighborhood picnic), helps raise funds for scholarships and school supplies and, according to its website, aims to "rebuild, reunite and respond to the needs of youth in our communities." It includes a bonfire, a basketball tournament, musical performances, a teen party and a balloon release. Most of the minors injured in the shooting have been released, and one suspect has been arrested on unrelated charges and is being questioned about the shooting.
