Devon McDonald

Midwest Region, Chair

Devon McDonald is the Executive Director of the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute, appointed by Governor Eric Holcomb on November 30, 2018. He also serves on the Commission to Combat Drug Abuse, the Justice Reinvestment Advisory Council, the Secured Schools Board, the Evidence Based Decision Making Team and co-chairs the Statewide Sexual Assault Response Team.

 

Devon brings a unique skill set to lead ICJI’s team with an extensive background in law, criminal justice, and public and military service. Most recently, he served as the agency’s chief of staff and general counsel, where he performed a variety of tasks, ranging from equipping and empowering staff to overseeing and managing all legal and compliance-related matters. Before that, he was in charge of the ICJI Victims Compensation program, and oversaw all financial aspects related to the fund to include grant management, reporting requirements and training of staff, to name a few. In total, Devon has been with the agency since 2012.

 

Prior to coming to ICJI, Devon worked for DCL Medical Laboratories for four years. There, he developed proposals for service requests, FDA and sponsor audits, as well as presented reports to upper management and monitored DCL’s daily operations.

 

Devon is an Indiana native and U.S. Army veteran, having served four years on active duty where he achieved the rank of Sergeant. During his military career, he was stationed in Germany and served as the Warning Systems Team Chief, Early Warning Systems Team Chief and Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge of Training for his battalion. He earned multiple awards for outstanding achievement to include Basic Training Soldier of the Cycle, AIT Honor Graduate, Commandant’s List at the Warrior’s Leaders Course, and NCO of the Quarter and NCO of the Year for both the 5th Battalion 7th Air Defense Artillery and the 69th Air Defense Artillery Brigade.

 

Outside of the military, Devon has a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis and a law degree from Indiana University McKinney School of Law.Devon is also a graduate of the Indiana Department of Corrections Leadership Academy and the Experienced and Emerging Leaders program.
